Learning about industrial marine design

People are often surprised to learn how much work goes into designing even the simplest objects in ships and boats, such as the beds and toilets. We have to design for all of the forces of the sea as well as corrosion from the sea water for outdoors objects. There is something really special about designing some equipment that can withstand all sorts of issues. This blog explains the design and manufacturing that goes into make marine grade items. It will be great for anyone who is passionate about the sea as well as students of industrial design and manufacturing.

Business Transportation: Choosing the Right Wrapping Film for Your Pallets

The right wrapping material is essential for your business when transporting commercial goods in pallets. The film will stabilise the loads and prevent shifting during transportation. This wrapping can be used to compact different loads in one pallet, and this will make handling multiple small load units easier. Moreover, the film will provide protection against dust and moisture. There are diverse types of wrapping films in terms of brands, application methods and performance. Therefore, choosing the right one for your operation can be difficult. Here are the primary considerations to help you identify the best pallet wrapping film.

Stretch or Shrink Film

When purchasing pallet wrapping film, you must choose between stretch and shrink material. As implied, stretch films are made from expandable material, and this type of product holds the loads by elasticity. Shrink wrapping is applied loosely around loads, and it will shrink tightly after heat application. Stretch film is considerably economical, easier to use without expertise and extremely adaptable for most transportation applications. Shrink wrap provides tighter and more stable wrapping, and the film can be ventilated without compromising the fit around the load. You will need to decide between these two options before purchasing your wrapping machinery because different equipment is required for each.

Special Film Properties

Wrapping film can be treated in different ways to improve the performance during transportation. Therefore, you should consider the requirements of your goods in order to ensure that your selected pallet wrapping is the best match. If you are transporting UV sensitive goods, you should purchase a wrapper with ultraviolet inhibitor treatment. This option is also ideal if the pallet will be stored outside for prolonged time periods. One-side cling wrapping material is beneficial if you are bundling several unit loads or if you think that the palletised goods will shift during haulage. This type of film has a somewhat adhesive face that clings to the loads and keeps them in position. Other films to consider include coloured, anti-static, pre-stretched and even vented wrapping.

Film Thickness

The integrity of the pallet wrapping film after installation will depend on the thickness of the product. In simple terms, packaging films are made in different gauges, and your choice will affect the performance on the road. Naturally, thicker wrapping films will provide better strength and puncture resistance. Moreover, they can handle higher weights without film distortion. Unfortunately, the cost of buying thick pallet wrapping film can be high. Check the load rating for each suitable film gauge to promote cost-performance balance.
